As I promised myself, I’m starting landscape studies. This painting is based on a photo I took of sunset on the beach, and was made digitally in GIMP, all on one layer to allow the colors to blend. I don’t think I captured the clouds or water very well, but not bad for a first attempt. Next time I’ll pick a simpler subject. . . . 😅
Do you prefer sunset or sunrise?

The color palette is amazing and I especially like the clouds above! They look great and a dream like scenery. I bet it was also breath taking in real! :3

Thank you dear! ❤️ You’re right, the sunset that night was simply breathtaking. Watching the sun paint the clouds in beautiful colors is a joy, especially with no light poles obstructing the view. 😉

This is beautiful and looks like real paint! And I can certainly believe it took 6 hours since Gimp (in my experience at least) is very hard to use. Lovely.

Thank you, Nadine! Using textured brushes are fun and give that painterly look. 🙂
It’s always nice to find someone who knows Gimp! What do you use it for?

I wanted to make art with it. I did some funny odds and ends, namely a toilet sign and a sign for a friend. But it definitely was hard to use!

That sounds like fun! 🙂
Yes, GIMP has a high learning curve compared to some other programs. It can be difficult in the beginning. Luckily there are tons tutorials on Youtube now, covering everything from an overview of the tools to photo editing to how to paint. Thank goodness for accomplished artists sharing their knowledge! I’d never have learned to use it otherwise. 🤣
