Digital Art Study – Sunset at the Beach

Sunset at the Beach - Landscape Art Study by River

Sunset at Turtle Beach art study 2-08-19

As I promised myself, I’m starting landscape studies.  This painting is based on a photo I took of sunset on the beach, and was made digitally in GIMP, all on one layer to allow the colors to blend.  I don’t think I captured the clouds or water very well, but not bad for a first attempt.  Next time I’ll pick a simpler subject. . . . 😅

Do you prefer sunset or sunrise?

    1. Thank you dear! ❤️ You’re right, the sunset that night was simply breathtaking. Watching the sun paint the clouds in beautiful colors is a joy, especially with no light poles obstructing the view. 😉

      1. That sounds like fun! 🙂
Yes, GIMP has a high learning curve compared to some other programs. It can be difficult in the beginning. :/ Luckily there are tons tutorials on Youtube now, covering everything from an overview of the tools to photo editing to how to paint. Thank goodness for accomplished artists sharing their knowledge! I’d never have learned to use it otherwise. 🤣

  1. Beautiful! I really thought this was an actual photograph at first! The pinks and purples are so pretty, the whole piece has such a calming vibe. ❤ 🙂
